Fire safety act 2021
There has always been a need for suitable fire safety legislation to be in place in order for buildings to be safely protected against the threat of a fire, and to help limit the damage if one breaks out. The fire safety act 2021 amended the existing Fire Safety Order 2005 and helped to clarify the responsibilities of building owners, known as responsible persons.
The aim of the fire safety act 2021 is to ensure that people feel safe in their homes, and that the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire is not repeated. The legalisation outlines how any premises larger than a single dwelling requires the responsible person, such as a leaseholder, to carry out a fire risk assessment.
This assessment must focus on the structure of a building and its external walls, including the doors, windows, cladding and insulation. Any hazards identified during the assessment need to be removed or negated through the use of passive fire protection products.
A professional passive fire protection company will be able to help the responsible person carry out the tasks required of them. Here at EA-RS Passive Fire Protection we are experienced in carrying out fire risk assessments and will be able to determine what measures should be taken to help limit the impact a fire can have on a building.
